ABOUT THE PROJECTObjectives and target countries
The project will be implemented in the five Mekong countries, namely Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand. The free trade agreements involving all five Mekong countries and bilateral investment treaties with Mekong countries have built close economic relationships between these countries through the entry of Korean companies into the region. Additionally, Korean investment in these countries is expected to promote the markets and economy of Korea. The Mekong countries are Korea’s principal target for external trade and overseas direct investment (ODI). Especially in ODI, tourism, and official development assistance (ODA), the Mekong countries have been rapidly rising as preferred destinations of Korea.
Expected outcomesSMEs based in Mekong countries will be able to identify potential Korean business partners to promote business collaboration and investment. Specific outcomes of the project are:
Support economic growth and closer regional integration
SMEs in the Mekong countries increase their profit and employment through business networks with Korean businesses and integration into vibrant regional/global value chains.
Stimulate SME competitiveness
SMEs enhance their competitiveness through technology adoption and product development/diversification to boost their productivity and competitiveness.
Facilitate market access
SMEs in the Mekong countries improve their market access through inter-firm collaboration with Korean businesses.
